Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future after another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
The manager lamented recurring weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period of this nature with performances so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
