A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation battling persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old presenter was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom shot at him before running away.

The motive behind the shooting has not been established and no one has been arrested are in custody, as per the official statement.

How It Happened

Police revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a premises in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the property supervising the installation of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, as per local media.

"The report indicates the man was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," authorities confirmed.

Surveillance tape reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what resembled a security uniform shooting on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but fell down a short distance away.

Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the incident.

Key evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the location.

Appeal for Witnesses

Police have appealed members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.

"Evidence suggests they walked a long distance after the attack, and officers have been following their trail to find their destination," added an official.

Outpouring of Grief

His sister, a close relative, said the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.

"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about subjects not many people were willing to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."

She requested the public to not sharing explicit content from the incident, saying this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's young family.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that aired on a popular local broadcasting platform.

Apart from his role as a presenter, Stock was active in various business ventures, including protective services, offering VIP protection services and securing high-profile events across South Africa.
