LA Erupts in Celebration as Los Angeles Dodgers Claim Second World Series Championship
Los Angeles witnessed citywide celebrations after the Dodgers won a thrilling seven-match World Series title. Supporters across the globe united with Angelenos in jubilation, marking the initial time in 25 years that a team has secured consecutive championships.
Celebration Parade Attracts Enormous Turnout
Los Angeles area celebrations featured a procession through the city center on the morning of the parade, a ticketed rally at Dodger Stadium, and spontaneous parties throughout the city.
Social media videos show thousands of Los Angeles residents packing downtown streets, many carrying homemade signs and team flags. The squad was seen riding high on a open-top bus through the crowds, raising the championship trophy high.
“My focus is already about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The procession path ended at Dodger Stadium, where the team emerged to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with the renowned DJ providing music and the artist driving a Pacific blue classic car around the field.
Early Celebrations and Player Reactions
Celebrations started prior to the procession, with Dodgers fans lighting flares in the roads of Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, named the MVP of the championship, commented plainly about the victory.
“We refuse to lose,” Yamamoto said. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and City Unity
However, Mark Walter received a less warm welcome at the rally. Recordings from the gathering appear to show Walter taking the stage to a combination of cheers and boos, with jeers punctuating his speech.
The championship acted as a bright spot in what has been a trying year for the city. An approximate quarter-million people attended to the championship parade last year, and according to team member Freddie Freeman, supporters this year showed as much if not more support.
“It seems it’s almost double from last year,” he said. “The supporters are incredible. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
