Edwards as well as O'Neil Included in Wolverhampton Wanderers Managerial Contenders

Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the early names under consideration to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the squad's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton manager - who played more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a leading candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they start the process of appointing a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed which means the club would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
