Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
