A senior Russian army officer has been killed following an blast in Moscow, according to an investigative body.
The incident took place on Monday morning when an explosive device concealed beneath a vehicle exploded, causing the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov held the position of the head of the armed forces' operational training department.
Investigators indicated that one possible explanation involves the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has not issued a comment.

Teams have been are examining the site, which is understood to be in a south district of the capital.
Media coverage indicate the detonation occurred in a parking area adjacent to a residential building.
Pattern of Targeted Attacks
Since the onset of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military personnel have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This new event follows other high-profile incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov perished in late 2024 when a bomb placed on a scooter was set off from a distance.
While a Ukrainian source previously linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are not officially confirmed as a matter of policy.
The conflict has been marked by clandestine operations extending into the heart of the Russian capital.
